Client Project / Multi-Tenant SaaS
ScrapGrid:
a cloud ERP for
scrap and recycling.
ScrapGrid is a multi-tenant SaaS product EdgeWeb designed for a client, giving scrap and recycling vendors one secure system for their yards, their field teams and their pricing. The client isn't named here. This page covers the product thinking, the architecture and the design.
The Problem
A cash-heavy business run on paper.
Most scrap and recycling vendors still run on handwritten pickup slips, weighing logs kept in notebooks and rates agreed by word of mouth. That creates three recurring problems: pricing disputes with nothing on record to settle them, weights and material types that are easy to misstate and hard to check, and no single view across multiple yards and field staff. The owner sees the business only after the day is over, if at all.
The Solution
Four modules, one flow of data.
Web ERP
The owner's workspace: records, stock, pricing and reporting across every yard in one place.
Field Mobile App
Field teams log pickups, weights and material types at the point of collection.
AI Verification Engine
Checks material photos and entries against each other, and flags anything that doesn't match.
Account & Billing Layer
Separate secure accounts for each vendor business, with subscription plans and add-on modules.
They fit together as a pipeline: data is captured on the phone, verified by the AI engine, and lands as a clean record in the owner's ERP.
Key Features
Designed around how scrap actually moves.
Isolated vendor accounts
Each business gets its own secure account, so one vendor's data never mixes with another's.
Capture at the source
Pickups, weights and materials are recorded on the spot, not rewritten from paper later.
AI photo and entry checks
Photos are compared with what was entered, reducing honest errors and making fraud harder.
One view of every yard
Owners see activity across yards and field staff without chasing reports.
Pricing on record
Rates are stored against each transaction, so a dispute is settled by the record, not by memory.
Modular by design
Start with the core and add modules as the business grows.
Architecture & Tech Approach
Shared platform, separated data.
ScrapGrid is designed as a multi-tenant system: one application serves many vendors, and every record belongs to a specific tenant. Isolation is enforced at the API and data layer rather than in the interface, so one vendor can never query another's data. Role-based access controls what owners, managers and field staff can see and change inside their own account.
The web app, the mobile app and the AI verification service all sit behind a common API. The design targets managed cloud hosting on AWS or Google Cloud, with backups and monitoring built into the platform rather than added later.
Business Model
Pricing that grows with the vendor.
Tiered subscriptions
Plans sized to the business, from a single yard to a multi-yard operation.
Per-transaction options
A usage-based route for vendors who prefer to pay in line with activity.
Setup fees
A one-time fee covering onboarding and configuration of a new vendor account.
Add-on modules
Extra capabilities priced separately, so no vendor pays for what they don't use.
EdgeWeb's Role
From idea to system design.
On this client project, EdgeWeb's role covered the product strategy, the system architecture, the UX/UI design and and the pricing model. It shows how we approach SaaS: start from how the industry really operates, then design the data, the interface and the revenue model together. See our Custom Software service for how that works with clients.
FAQ
Is ScrapGrid a client project?
Yes. ScrapGrid is a client project: EdgeWeb designed the SaaS product for a client, who isn't named on this page. It's presented here as product strategy, architecture and design work.
What does the AI Verification Engine do?
It checks material photos and field entries against each other and flags mismatches for review, to reduce errors and fraud.
Can EdgeWeb design a similar SaaS product for my industry?
Yes. We start from how your industry actually operates, then design the architecture, interface and pricing model together.
